Laceration treatment and subsequent wound healing. The injury that occurred with our own foal made my tummy turn when i saw it, however the healing that resulted from our treatment with Traumeel was so dramatic and effective I felt it was very important to add this story to the review page.

Early one morning…

I had had an early start and Laura who works with me was checking the horses. To her horror she found Rock & Roll, (a yearling), had, during the night somehow ripped open his skin under his jaw. When she checked him there was a large piece of skin just hanging down.

She cleaned the wound warm water and waited for me to treat it.

Laceration Treatment

We liberally applied the Traumeel Gel which we had mixed with Manuka Honey. It was a messy wound to treat.

We were not able to bandage it as it would have meant his mouth would have had to have been bandaged..

We then gave him Traumeel Tablets.

24 Hours later…

24 hours later the laceration was looking clean and you could see fine new tissue coming through. The previous day the wound had been quite smelly but within hours of applying the Traumeel Gel and Manuka Honey it smelt clean and there was no infection. This in itself is worthy of note.

After several days the flapping piece of skin eventually dropped off although initially we had managed to stick it down with the Traumeel Gel and honey to help protect the open flesh.

Ongoing Laceration Treatment

We continued to treat him and apply the Traumeel Gel and Manuka Honey, although I found it disturbed the tissue less if we only applied it once a day.

We were also able to leave him outside grazing throughout this treatment and the wound healed beautifully.

We never found anything which explained how he had injured himself – it looked as if he had torn it with his own hoof.

Advantages of Traumeel and Manuka Honey

These two remedies have helped me in so many cases, I would never not keep them in stock.

The advantage of using honey and Traumeel for a laceration of this nature and open wounds is you end up with so little scaring and you can treat them yourself, a huge plus.
